✝️✡️ Understanding Antisemitism & Zionism: A Conversation for Christians

2–3 minutes

read

At a recent discussion, a Christian attendee asked two important questions:

What led up to the October 7th attack?
Why has antisemitism persisted for so long?

We’d like to add another important question to the discussion:

What about Christianity and Zionism?
These questions reflect a deep curiosity and a desire to understand Jewish history, Israel, and the challenges facing the Jewish people today.

📜 A History of Antisemitism

Antisemitism has existed for thousands of years, fueled by misinformation, religious conflicts, and political motivations. For those seeking a historical and biblical perspective, a great resource on this topic is Israel My Glory, a Christian magazine that dedicated an entire issue to the history of antisemitism. It provides valuable insights into the historical and biblical roots of Jewish persecution. You can explore their detailed historical timeline here: A History of Antisemitism

📖 Antisemitism in Christianity

If you’re curious to learn more about the history of Christian antisemitism and its lasting impact, the Bearing Witness lecture series provides an insightful overview. It traces how antisemitic beliefs took root in early Christian teachings, evolved through the medieval period with discrimination and violence, and culminated in modern tragedies like the Holocaust. The series also explores efforts to repair these historical injustices, including the landmark Nostra Aetate declaration of 1965, which reshaped the Catholic Church’s relationship with Judaism. Endorsed by Jewish, Catholic, and Protestant leaders, these lectures stress the need for education, dialogue, and advocacy in dismantling old prejudices and building genuine interfaith understanding.

🇮🇱 What is Zionism?

Many Christians today hear mixed messages about Zionism. Here are two key questions:

Is it biblical to be a Zionist?

Yes! Zionism is the belief in the Jewish people’s right to their ancestral homeland, deeply rooted in biblical promises.

If Christians are Zionists, does that mean they don’t care about Palestinians?

Absolutely not. Supporting Israel does not mean ignoring Palestinian hardships. The goal is peace and coexistence.

What do the Torah and Old Testament say about God’s promises to Israel—both in history and today?
For those seeking a deeper understanding, consider studying the Torah and Old Testament scriptures to explore God’s promises to Israel—past, present, and future.

For those who want to dive deeper, there’s a church that is currently doing a 90-day Torah reading challenge 📖. Ask us more about it!

📖 Learning and Taking Action

Many churches today have moved away from biblical teachings on Israel due to Replacement Theology or a lack of scriptural focus. If you’re interested in learning more:
