The Druze are an ethnoreligious group with roots in the Levant, dating back to the 11th century. Today, most Druze live in Syria, Israel, and Lebanon, and there are nearly 1 million of them worldwide. After the Six-Day War, Israel gained control of the Golan Heights, and many Druze families were separated. Many also refused Israeli citizenship, continuing to identify as Syrian, and many still do to this day. Most Druze in mainland Israel are granted citizenship with full rights, and 80-83% serve in the IDF, often surpassing Jewish enlistment rates. After the fall of the Assad Regime in December 2024, a power vacuum emerged, creating ongoing unrest between Druze leaders and the Syrian government. This is just the beginning.
