Between Conversations, We’re Still Here
Before You Share That Headline…
A headline. A viral video. A statistic. An expert on TV. A post shared thousands of times.
How Do We Know What To Trust?
BCTC’s Behind The Media resources are designed to help us slow down and look more carefully at the information reaching us every day.
Look Beyond The Headline.
We explore sources, headlines, framing, images, experts, repetition, social media, bias and misinformation — and the questions we can ask before believing or sharing something.
The goal isn’t to find the one perfect news outlet, journalist or expert who will always get everything right.
Not: “Which news source is always right?” There isn’t one.
Instead, we can get into the habit of asking a few questions before accepting what appears in front of us.
Before You Believe Or Share It, Ask:
Who is telling me this?
What is the original source?
What evidence is provided?
What context might be missing?
Can I verify it somewhere else?
These questions don’t guarantee that we will never get something wrong. They do something more practical: they help us slow down before reacting, believing or sharing.
Take A Closer Look.
Explore BCTC resources and find tools you can actually use the next time something lands in your feed.
Media literacy isn’t about distrusting everything.
It’s about learning how to look at information more carefully — where it came from, what supports it, what may be missing, and whether we can verify it.
Because being better informed isn’t only about what we know.
It’s Also About How We Decide What To Believe.
